Last week Meg, me and some friends were part of a photo shoot for the newly reincarnated Plaza Liquors. The new place is sill owned by Christian Chotkowski and his wife Rebecca (two very cool people) and the new place is called Proof’d! The location right on the plaza is really pretty awesome. Back in the day it was a butcher shop, then 60 years ago or so it became a liquor store and as of a few months ago a became a kinda hybrid, kick ass craft beer and wine tasting bar where you can either purchase what you like and scoot out the door or snag one of the great tables next to the big plate store front windows and watch the crazy tourists try to maneuver around the plaza…ha!
So look, lets be real…yes I love good wine, but this blog is about beer, so let’s get to it! If you want one place in Sonoma to try out some hard to find craft beers from both big as well as small producing breweries then this is your spot. You’re going to taste some great brew and also have the help of knowledgeable employees to tell you the stories behind the brew!
Stone Brewing came out with this really cool end of the world IPA to celebrate…well, the end of the world…duh. I guess the Mayan dude that was in charge of the calendar thing kinda blew it…last Friday wasn’t the end of the world, but it was the last day to snag one of these cool IPA’s. Don’t worry…I think I have lived through at least half a dozen endings of the world so I’m sure there will be another one soon!
So after all the shooting and staging and editing, here is my moment of fame…my chance for super stardom…or not. It would appear that my best look is, well…uhm…blurry…ha! Actually there were some other shots and they all are awesome due to the super talented Rebecca. You can see them all here on the Proof’d Facebook Page…click over and give’m a look and a “Like”.
So, when you’re driving through the Sonoma plaza next check this place out:

I remember taking Grandma there so she could buy a little bottle of something ;) I think it was called Gibby’s? back then?
Close, that was just a few door down at the oyster bar..that place was packed with magazines back in the day..
Having grown up in Sonoma I remember going to that butcher shop with my Mom. A nice butcher named Mr. Baccigalupa always waited on us, I believe he was the store owner. Guess it went from a butcher shop to a liquor store because it was known as Plaza Liquors forever! Now the same building is a beer & wine bar. Sonoma Square is becoming total wine bars now beer bars. Who would have thought……
Awesome to have such a great spot in town
Let’s hit it soon Chris!
Gotta check this out! Bummer about the Stone IPA 12/21 end of the world brew…
Woulda loved to try that one!
